Burn it Down: Igniting Intersectional Feminist Directing is an ongoing conversation, research project, and upcoming book curated by theatre makers Gina Sandi-Diaz, Rachel Blackburn, Molly Claassen, Keyanna Alexander, Kaycee Swierc, and Rowen Haigh. As femme directors, we have often found ourselves at odds with "traditional" directing models that emphasize a hierarchical, patriarchal, and authoritarian practice. We've come together in this group to ask: how do we work—and how do we want to work? What practices and norms reflect our values as directors and feminists invested in positive social change and anti-oppression practices? As we step away from hierarchical models, what challenges and pitfalls come with that territory, and how do we navigate that? And how do we normalize and share alternatives to a top-down directing approach?

Join us for this roundtable to learn about our work—where we are and where we're going—as well as to add your thoughts and insights to the conversation. Our goal is to facilitate a lively, solutions-forward discussion that will give folks food for thought as well as concrete practices to take back into their own communities and directing practices.

Theatre makers of all ages, backgrounds, and disciplines are welcome.

NOTE: This is a NINETY MINUTE session + will begin at 1:00 pm ET on Monday, July 12th, 2021.
